We have been collecting across borders for years. Now we reach even further.

Collectia has joined LIC, adding trusted local expertise, clear cost control and broader credit insights to our established cross-border collection services.

If you have ever tried to recover an unpaid invoice in another country, you already know the problem. A debt that would be straightforward at home becomes something else entirely once it crosses a border. Suddenly there is a different legal system, unfamiliar enforcement rules, a language you may not speak, and local business customs you cannot see from the outside.

You are not alone in finding this hard. As trade becomes more international, more companies are exposed to cross-border credit risk than ever before, and the tools that work in a home market often do not travel well. What counts as standard practice in one country can be ineffective, or even counterproductive, in another.

This is work we know well. Through our existing international networks, we have recovered debt across borders on behalf of our clients for years. That work continues. What changes now is how far our reach extends.

Why cross-border collection is different

The difficulty is rarely the debt itself. It is everything around it.

Enforcement procedures vary widely from country to country. A payment reminder that carries legal weight in one market may mean nothing in the next. Timelines, documentation requirements, and the role of the courts all differ. On top of that sits language, and the simple fact that a debtor is far more likely to respond to someone who contacts them in their own language, with an understanding of local expectations.

Get any of this wrong and a recoverable debt can quietly become a write-off. This is why local presence matters, and why we have spent years building the partnerships that provide it.

Extending the network further

To strengthen that reach, we have now also joined League International for Creditors (LIC), a global network of professional debt collection and credit management firms with members in more than 50 countries.

Founded in 1962, LIC is one of the longest-established networks of its kind. Its members are independent, carefully vetted firms that have committed to a shared code of ethics, with deep local expertise in debt collection, legal frameworks, enforcement procedures, and the business and cultural realities of their own markets. Across the network, members handle collection cases worth several billion euros every year on behalf of exporters worldwide.

For Collectia clients, membership adds another layer of local partners to the international capability we already provide. When a debtor sits in another country, we draw on a trusted local partner who already knows how recovery works there, covering both B2B and B2C cases, with agreed pricing and clear cost control from the start.

More than recovery

The value is not only in collecting what is already overdue. The network also gives access to international credit information, which means clients can assess a debtor's financial standing before extending credit, not just chase payment after something has gone wrong.

That keeps cross-border credit a manageable question rather than a reactive problem. You can evaluate risk earlier, make better decisions about who to trade with, and act with local knowledge behind you when a payment does go wrong.

Trading internationally, with more confidence

Expanding into new markets should be an opportunity, not a credit risk you cannot control. By combining our technology-driven approach to credit management with the reach of our international partnerships, we help our clients trade across borders with the same confidence they have at home.

If your business operates internationally and cross-border payments are a growing concern, we would be glad to talk about how we can help.
